Meadow Lake Strides is hosting, Becoming an Age Friendly Community on Tuesday, Aril 11.

This information meeting will be from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Fraud Education will be from 2-3 p.m.

This is at the Meadow Lake Senior’s Activity Centre.

The keynote speaker is Michel Sorensen.

Lunch and refreshments will be served.

What is Strides?

Strides is an exercise program monitored by health professionals with a self-care management focus. Participants work with a team of healthcare professionals including registered nurses, a physiotherapist and an exercise therapist to provide education, exercise and self-management support. Participants are provided with a safe supportive place to build confidence, strength and skills.

Who is Strides for?

Strides is for people living with or at risk for Chronic Conditions including (but not limited to):

  • Heart Disease
  • Lung Disease/COPD/Asthma
  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Stroke

What are the Benefits of Strides?

  • Reducing further heart attacks – research has shown that attending a cardiac exercise program such as Strides is the most effective treatment for reduction of further heart attacks by as much as 23%.
  • Improved independence
  • Improved balance and strength

What will You Learn?

  • To take control of your chronic condition rather than the condition controlling you.
  • Skills to manage your health condition and maintain an active and healthier life.

Do You Need a Referral?

No. You can refer yourself to the program or you can be referred by your physician or other health care professional.
