Northern Food Store in La Loche destroyed by fire

Apr 25, 2018 | 10:00 AM

The community of La Loche lost its Northern Store when a fire ripped through the building last night.

According to La Loche Fire Chief Derek Herman, the fire broke out sometime after the store on La Loche Ave. closed at 8 p.m. last night.

“It started from the inside,” he said. “There were at least 20 people helping with roadblocks and putting out the fire helping out with the hoses.”

The fire is completely out as of this morning, he said, though some firefighters were still on the scene ensuring hotspots did not flare up again. Herman said there were no injuries were during the incident.

The volunteer department will be working with fire investigators from either Prince Albert or Saskatoon in coming days to determine the cause of the blaze, Herman said.

“My firefighters did a good job,” he said. “Even though they’re tired, they stayed up with me to put out the fire at the building here.”
