Lodge fundraiser event to feature musical celebrity impersonator

A unique one-woman show, which will feel like performances from over 20 renowned singers, is going to help raise funds for Meadow Lake’s new Northlands Pioneer Lodge.

On May 5, celebrity impersonator Bonnie Kilroe will take to the stage at the Meadow Lake Civic Centre for a performance celebrating several singing divas including Marilyn Monroe, Reba McIntyre, Madonna, Cher, and Tina Turner. The show is one of many fundraisers the association runs throughout the year, which will eventually help furnish the new lodge to be located on Ninth St. W.

Kilroe said she loves taking part in fundraisers for positive causes, as her show is lighthearted, comedic, and interactive.

“Fundraisers are amazing because everyone is always on your side and there’s a positive vibe,” she said. “Everyone is really keen on the audience participation part, which is always fun for me.”

She said some of her impressions are quite accurate, while others are exaggerated parodies. One medley includes quick costume changes, depicting seven stars in just eight minutes.

“People get to see their favourite celebrities in different, funny ways,” Kilroe said. “Madonna is ridiculous, and when I come out as Cher I look and sound exactly like her.”

The fundraising goal for the new lodge is around $3 million, and fundraising committee co-chair Geoff Barton said the coffers are currently sitting at around the $700,000 mark from past pledges and fundraisers. He said he would be surprised if the show doesn’t sell out.

“If people want to come and learn a bit about us and have some fun, and if it’s something they feel passionate about, then they’ll be able to find out what we’re working on,” he said. “We’re pretty happy with the response so far.”
