FREELAND BACK IN WASHINGTON FOR NAFTA TALKS
Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland will be back in Washington today to rejoin negotiations amid fresh concern about the fate of NAFTA. U.S. President Donald Trump was joined by Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto by phone Monday to say the two countries have reached a bilateral “understanding” that Trump hinted could mean the end of NAFTA. He invited Canada to join what he cast as U.S.-Mexican negotiations, but said if Canada doesn’t become part of a new trade pact, he would enact devastating tariffs on automotive imports.
