Kingsbury wins silver at moguls World Cup, Dufour-Lapointe takes bronze

ALMATY, Kazakhstan — Canada’s Mikael Kingsbury placed second in the final moguls singles World Cup of the season on Saturday while Justine Dufour-Lapointe took bronze in the women’s event.

Kingsbury, in his 100th career World Cup start, earned silver with a score of 79.37, finishing behind Japan’s Ikuma Horishima (81.72). Swedish skier Walter Walberg came in third (78.67).

“I had a really great day. It’s a bit of a shame about the super final,” said the Deux-Montagnes, Que., native. “I had a very good run, but I had a tiny bobble on my second jump and the judges were very rigorous. I think I should have gotten a slightly higher score than I did, but it’s OK. There’s always (dual moguls) tomorrow.”

Montreal’s Dufour-Lapointe clinched bronze with 76.64 points. Kazakhstan’s Yulia Galysheva won gold with 79.69 while defending moguls World Cup champion Perrine Laffont of France was second (79.11).

“I’m very pleased with this podium today, because it’s my first win landing my cork,” said Dufour-Lapointe. “At the start of the season I had set myself a goal to do a cork in competition, so it’s a big day for me since I not only achieved that goal but made it to the podium on top of that.”

The dual moguls event goes Sunday at Shymbulak Mountain Resort to conclude the 2018-2019 season.
