Memorial service to honour Humboldt Broncos on anniversary of bus crash

Mar 29, 2019 | 2:07 PM

Next Saturday will mark one year since devastation struck the city of Humboldt following the Broncos bus crash.

A memorial service is planned to take place at 4:30 p.m. at the Elgar Petersen Arena to pay tribute and honour those who lost their lives and those who survived the tragedy on April 6, 2018.

The theme for the service is ‘believe’ along with the color yellow, according to Communications Manager Penny Lee.

“It’s going to be a service of hope and remembrance,” Lee said.

Since event planners anticipate a large number of attendees, passes will be required to attend the event. The passes have not yet been released to the public but they can be obtained for free once they are available.

Lee said a video has been compiled with footage from schools from around the country that will echo messages of moving on in a positive direction.

The service being put on by the city, Humboldt Broncos family members, Broncos organization, and Humboldt Ministerial Association. It will be televised live by TSN.

More details on the service are expected to be released in the coming days.
