McHappy Day

A McHappy in Meadow Lake

May 8, 2019 | 1:43 PM

McHappy Day returned to Meadow Lake on Wednesday, with proceeds from certain items going to a good cause.

During the special event, $1 from every Big Mac, Happy Meal and hot McCafé beverage went towards the Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) in Saskatoon and the Ronald McDonald Family Room in the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert.

The RMHC is a place where families who don’t live in the city can stay while their children receive treatment in hospital. The RMHC has housed over 1200 families in Saskatchewan in 2018, including 21 families from Meadow Lake, three from Waterhen Lake and one family from Rapid View.

“If you have a child 18 years of age and under, undergoing medical treatment in one of the Saskatoon hospitals, the family comes to Ronald McDonald House. We are about two blocks away from the hospital,” said Marg Coverett, the Finance and Office Manager for RMHC Saskatoon. “It’s absolutely like a five-star hotel.”

Coverett estimates Meadow Lake and North Battleford raised around $10,000 combined during McHappy Day last year.

Meadow Lake RCMP also took part in McHappy Day. Constable Josh Ferris was serving meals and smiles to the drive-thru customers.

In 2018, McHappy Day raised more than $6.1 million across Canada.
