The Meadow Lake Kidsport Golf Tournament returned to Meadow Lake Golf Course on May 25 for its 14th year, with plenty of guests and golfers.

“Weather looks like it’s going to cooperate,” said Brian Gislason, the committee chair for the Meadow Lake chapter of Kidsport. “We’ve been pretty fortunate. We had one out of fourteen years of doing this we’ve had one day of real bad weather.”

Gislason said they had 130 golfers registered to take part in the texas scramble golf tournament.

The tournament had plenty of prizes including for longest drives and longest putt. “We have four $10,000 hole-in-ones which are exciting,” said Gislason. “Haven’t had to pay one out yet, maybe this will be the year.”

Celebrity guests entering the tournament this year are: Dwight King, Saskatchewan Roughrider Alumni Wes Cates, Andrew Greene, John Walker, Craig Newman. Canadian Blind Golf Champions Gerry Nelson and Chris Villeneuve will also be taking part in the tournament.

Jaden Schwartz, Johnny Bower and Braden Holtby jerseys will be some of items that will be put up in the silent auction this year.

Money raised for the golf tournament and silent auction go to KidSport, a national organization that raises money for kids who aren’t able to afford to participate in organized sport.

“We try and give every kid an opportunity to play,” said Gislason. “Finances are a barrier and we try and help them overcome that barrier.”

Gislason said the organization aims to raise $10,000-15,000 every year which is usually half the amount they raise in a year. Gislason said the organization was able to sponsor 100 kids through KidSport last year.
