The Brick opening store in Meadow Lake

The Brick is opening a store in Meadow Lake.

Genine Franklin and her sister Paula co-own The Brick Cold Lake and when asked to expand to another store they wanted to bring one to Meadow Lake.

“They were asking us if we were going to open another franchise and they gave us a couple of locations and we said ‘No, we would rather go to Meadow Lake,’” Genine Franklin said. “We’re already delivering there regularly and we really enjoy the community.”

The store is located at 317 Centre St., the former Northern Nugget Entertainment bingo hall, and expected to open at the end of August or in the first week of September when renovations to the building are complete.

The store will create three or four local jobs which Franklin said they’ve already started recruiting.

Franklin thinks it’s important to have a showroom in the community where people are able to see the furniture before buying.

“We thought they could use a storefront where they can see what they’re looking at because otherwise they would have to drive here or have to drive to Lloydminster.”

The store will have a small warehouse for pick ups but the furniture will still have to be shipped from the primary warehouse in Cold Lake. Franklin said the new location is a first step with a bigger store possible in the future.

“Ideally this is where we want to start out and we’ll see how it goes,” Franklin said. “You’ve got a lot of opportunity there and there’s some great property with room for expansion if need be.”
