Jolibois knocking on as many doors as possible on campaign trail

Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River incumbent NDP MP Georgina Jolibois is thankful for all the constituents who have welcomed her into their homes while on the campaign trail.

“People are really struggling with affordability in northern Saskatchewan and when I hear their stories, the struggles they have financially, the utility bills, the phone bills and the list goes on, they appreciate it,” she said. “I have visited many homes and I wish to visit more.”

In one of Canada’s largest ridings covering more than 343,000 square-kilometers, Jolibois stated she has put almost 14,000 kilometers on her vehicle travelling to communities throughout the region. She said she has been as far west as Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation, Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation and Meadow Lake, as far east as Creighton, Denare Beach and Flin Flon, as far south as Mistawasis First Nation and Mitchekan Lake First Nation, as well as Beauval, Buffalo Narrows, Île-à-la-Crosse, La Loche, La Ronge, Southend, Stanley Mission and more. Jolibois has yet to visit Saskatchewan’s Far North, but she hopes to before the Oct. 21 election.

While on the campaign trail, the message Jolibois wants to share with voters is ‘In it for you,’ or ‘On your side.” She noted those themes are important to her and her goal is to knock on as many doors as possible.

“It’s an excellent opportunity to reach out more … and to hear more concerns and what people have to share with me, and it’s been a remarkable journey so far,” Jolibois said.

There have been three main concerns the incumbent MP has heard while campaigning including the need for better health care, the need for housing renovations, as well as climate change and the environment. She mentioned there are concerns about maternal and mental health care, treatment for addictions and the need for better care for those will illnesses like cancer or diabetes, or residents who require dialysis.

“In order to hear the concerns and the thoughts and the feelings of our constituents, it means visiting with them,” Jolibois said. “I believe I’m the only candidate throughout the whole riding [who is] actually reaching out to people, listening to their concerns and pushing for what they are pushing for.”
