About Fightin’ Words:

Fightin’ Words is Froese’s first album with her back-up band, the Hot Toddies. So far, one single with an accompanying music video has been released, for the song ‘Eaton’s Spring & Summer 1975’. ‘Eaton’s’ is a light-hearted 70s-inspired soft rock song written in a fit of teenage angst about the cover model of the aforementioned catalogue.

The album features ten originals by Froese, all pulled together by musical assistance from the help of the Hot Toddies, producer Kacy Anderson, and engineer Jill Mack. Fightin’ Words is a selection of Froese’s favourite songs plucked from the past seven years of her songwriting catalogue.

Given her wide array of interest in musical styles, this album predictably does not stick to one genre, but ranges through folk, country, and pop ballads to throwback punk and rockabilly. the songs are strung together by wavering folky vocals, strong rock ‘n’ roll lead guitar, and the creativity of eight musicians with varied musical backgrounds. The instrumentation includes upright bass, drums, acoustic six and twelve-string guitars, organ and piano, harmonica, saxophone, and pedal steel.

Froese’s music video for the first single, Eaton’s Spring & Summer 1975 is a creation by friend and videographer ‘little jack films’, who scanned pages from Ellen’s copy of the catalogue and superimposed the faces of Froese and her bandmates into it.

MORE ABOUT ELLEN FROESE BELOW VIDEO

Hailing from a dairy farm in the heart of Saskatchewan, young folk singer Ellen Froese is swiftly making her presence known in the Canadian music scene. Whether performing a folk traditional, a rock ‘n’ roll classic with her full band, or her own compositions, Froese handles it with an air of authenticity – all tempered with a healthy dose of humour and self-deprecation. The last couple years have brought main stage slots at festivals like Regina Folk Fest, and a European tour through Germany’s Devilduck Records. With four albums behind her, Froese is eagerly anticipating the 2019 release of her first album with her full band.

TOUR DATES & DETAILS

With her full band in tow, Froese will be taking to the road for the month of November in support of the new album, with shows around Canada. Her back-up band, The Hot Toddies, features Dylan Cooper on drums, Matt Joyal on electric guitar, and Emmett Fortosky on bass. Together they are a versatile group, with each of the members specializing in hard rock, rockabilly, and jazz respectively. Mixed with Froese’s folk background, they create a unique show that easily combines 70’s pop ballads, rockabilly country, 60’s folk, awkward stage banter, costumes, and whatever else they come up with. Every show is a surprise!
