One federal candidate confirms attendance for Christopher Lake forum

Oct 15, 2019 | 5:04 PM

Only one candidate from the Desnethé–Missinippi–Churchill River electoral district has confirmed they will be in attendance for a forum tonight in Christopher Lake.

The event is being held by the Prince Albert chapter of The Council of Canadians and member Nancy Carswell stated Green Party candidate Sarah Kraynick is the only candidate so far who confirmed they’d make it. Invites also went out to incumbent NDP MP Georgina Jolibois, Tammy Cook-Searson (Liberal), Gary Vidal (Conservative) and Jerome Perrault (People’s Party of Canada).

The start time is 6:30 p.m. at the Christopher Lake Curling Rink Lounge and it will end around 8:30 p.m.

“The importance is before we have someone represent us, we really need an opportunity to have a conversation with them,” Carswell said. “Over evolution, we have become really good at judging people’s intelligence, personality and sanity with just a short conversation with them and that’s the whole idea of these gatherings. They are to give opportunities for voters to have conversations.”

Carswell noted each candidate will have three minutes to speak about a preset topic and then there will be 15 minutes of conversation time with the audience.

Earlier this month in La Ronge, Cook-Searson, Kraynick and Vidal came together for an all-candidates forum where they spoke about a variety of issues. That event was hosted by the La Ronge and District Chamber of Commerce.

The Council of Canadians is also hosting a second all-candidates forum Oct. 17 at the John M. Cuelenaere Public Library in Prince Albert. Candidates in that riding who have confirmed so far are NDP candidate Harmony Johnson-Harder, Liberal candidate Estekke Hjertaas and Veterans Coalition Party candidate Brian Littlepine. That forum will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
