Chamber of Commerce partnering with non-profit organization to facilitate close community connection

Meadow Lake Chamber of Commerce and KidsFirst are partnering for the first time to host a festival just for local kids.

Chamber administrator Trevor Dignean told meadowlakeNOW the partnership is to facilitate a community connection between local businesses and non-profit organizations.

“We’re trying to partner with as many non-profits as we can to get the business community helping out to build a better and stronger community,” Dignean said.

Kids can expect a magician, bouncy castles, face painting, carnival treats and a barbecue provided by Meadow Lake Co-Op.

“There’s an Atom hockey tournament that Saturday. They have 10 teams and six of those are from out of town. I’m hoping we could get at least 200 kids,” Dignean said.

KidsFirst said the chamber received a $2,000 grant from Saskatchewan Lotteries and reached out to the non-profit to organize the event.

Jaylene Cornish, home visiting supervisor with KidsFirst, told meadowlakeNOW the festival is an opportunity for kids to get out of the house during winter months and helps keep little ones engaged with other youth in the community.

“We might use the money to help our families buy car seats, school supplies, baby supplies, diapers or formula,” she said.

The Kids Festival will be held on Jan. 25 at the Alliance Church from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The chamber is asking for a $2 donation. The funds raised will help local families in need.
