Eagle Hills Multiple 4H Club – Innovation Credit Union Public Speaking

Jan 20, 2020 | 11:10 AM

By: Keaten Osicki and McKenna Mitchell

Public Speaking is a proud 4-H tradition that allows members to share a persuasive, informative, or entertaining speech on a topic of their choice, developing self-confidence and communication skills! 4-H clubs across the province will host their own club public speaking days, with the top place speakers having the opportunity to advance on to districts, regionals, and provincial levels of competition.

Throughout the club year, members have many chances to try a little public speaking, whether it’s telling their fellow club members an idea they want to do for fundraising, a club activity idea, volunteer ideas and preparing a speech for club competition.

This year, on January 12th, the 34 registered of the members met at the Western Development Museum to participate in our annual club public speaking event. The members are between the ages of 6-21 and are divided into the 4 different age categories. These categories are Cloverbud, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Based on the age category, each member must prepare a speech on any topic they are interested on within a certain time limits. Each member is judged on presentation, content and writing style with the top 2 winners from each age category be able to compete at the next level.

The speeches this year were amazing as each member selected a topic that was important to them and they were able to communicate the importance of the topic. It is heartwarming to be able to see the marked improvement for our returning members including the confidence on stage, the ability to portray the importance of their topic and the amount of practice they put into their speech.

We want to congratulate the following winners:

1. Jackson Steiert

2. Lara Radchenko
