MLBEX nominations acknowledge business leaders

Jan 31, 2020 | 6:08 PM

The annual Meadow Lake Business Excellence (MLBEX) awards are back. The Meadow Lake & District Chamber of Commerce is encouraging the community to recognize the hard work and talent of those who make Meadow Lake a great place to live and work.

Chamber Vice President, Evan Haubrich and Chamber Administrator, Trevor Dignean told meadowlakeNOW, nominations for the top categories needs local participation.

“For me, it’s about recognizing the people who put their heart and soul in the community. Last year’s community builder was Kurt Hadland,” Haubrich said. “It was nice to see those guys get recognition.”

This year’s nomination categories include, business of the year, young business leader of the year, female entrepreneur of the year, best new business of the year, best non-profit/ community organization of the year, best multicultural business of the year, volunteer of the year and Indigenous leader of the year, to name a few.

Dignean placed an emphasis on the importance of community participation in supporting local businesses.

“A lot of businesses don’t even get nominated,” Dignean said. “That’s another big thing about the awards. To be nominated in the first place, means someone has recognized a business as being worthy of [extended] recognition.”

Voting for your favourite Meadow Lake and District business can be completed online here. Nomination forms can also be picked up at the Chamber Office at 902 Highway 4 South.

The deadline for nominations is Feb 21 and the MLBEX awards gala is on March 20.
