Meadow Lake challenged to log fitness time to improve community parks

People living in the Meadow Lake region are challenged to log their fitness time for a chance to win $10,000 to improve Lions Park.

The City of Meadow Lake is registered for the 2020 Saskatchewan Blue Cross Go Out and Play Challenge. The community that moves most during the 10-day challenge wins the grand prize.

Kassidy Dunsing, fitness instructor and owner of Eatery on Main said Meadow Lake is already an active community, therefore the challenge could be an easy win.

“We’re such an active community already. This is just a really great opportunity for us to jump on something that’s kind of already being given to us,” she said.

Individuals who are 13-years-old and up or families can create an online profile here and begin logging fitness time and hours spent playing outside for a chance to win outdoor improvement dollars from Saskatchewan In Motion.

Meadow Lake boasts Rise Up Health and Fitness, Pure Energy Spin Studio and Pure Energy Fit House gym, and a new yoga studio which presents opportunities for already active members of the community to contribute to the challenge.

Dunsing is a member of the local chamber of commerce and said Lions Park holds community events often and any improvement to the space is welcome.

“We intend on using [the park] for our Canada Day celebration, for volleyball tournaments, or using the amphitheatre. I think the park is a great part of our community and the more things we can get going there and the more money put into it can only be helpful to our community,” she said.

Saskatchewan In Motion will publicly announce the prize winners of the Community Challenge on its website on March 13.

The local challenge runs until March 10.
