Highly anticipated Telemiracle 44 happening this weekend

Mar 6, 2020 | 5:42 PM

Meadow Lake Kinsmen and Kinettes are getting ready for the highly anticipated Telemiracle fundraiser this weekend.

Local restaurants are involved in raising funds for Telemiracle through the community’s first Burger Battle where $2 from each Kin Combo sold, is donated to the fundraiser.

Geoff Barton, vice president of the local Kinsmen club, told meadowlakeNOW Sandi’s Poutinerie and Grill, Eatery on Main and Nor’Wester have submitted running totals where Nor’wester and Eatery on Main both garnered nearly $200 each. Sandi’s Poutinerie and Grill sold 170 Kin Combos to date.

“They said they did well, and I think they did really well too,” Barton said.

The Bear’s Den is in the midst of counting totals. The battle was intended to run until Feb. 29 but restaurants have decided to continue with the Burger Battle until Telemiracle wraps up.

Telemiracle in Meadow Lake begins on Saturday, March 7 at 9 p.m. and will run for 21 hours until Sunday March 8 at 5 p.m at the Civic Centre.

Local Kinsmen Chet Rogers said the band Lady and the Gentlemen Jammers are kicking off the event on Saturday and will entertain the crowd until approximately 2 a.m.

“People will be staying there all night,” Rogers said. “We don’t have talent in the wee hours of the night but we’ll have music. Starting at about 8 a.m. we have a bunch of local musicians slated to come on.”

Local performances include the Highbush Clanberries, Piper MacFarlane on the ukulele, Ryan Merasty will sing and play the guitar, The Five O’Clock Shadow band, young fiddlers, singers and performers are all slated to entertain.

Rogers said in previous years, Lady and the Gentleman Jammers came back on stage to finish the show at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Rogers added live tallies of pledges can be viewed online at KinMeadow.ca

“We’ve got quite a few bid board items up already and our bid board is a silent auction” Rogers said. “The website can link people straight up to the bid board for this weekend and they can see live what the bids are and it will also have our phone lines on there so people can call in and bid or pledge.”

Meadow Lake Kinettes, Tammy Mutch, Louise Slater, Julie Vandale will make the pilgrimage to Regina to take the stage at the telethon.
