LOBO PUP EASTER

JH Moore Elementary staff stay engaged with families during social distancing mandate this Easter

“The Lobo-pups” at JH Moore Elementary School could be in for a sweet surprise this Easter weekend.

Principal, Susan Plant told meadowlakeNOW Lobo-pups are a friendly nickname for families of students at the school and every pup is invited to take part in the school’s first ever outdoor Easter scavenger hunt.

“The reason we’re doing this idea at this time of year is everybody is out walking and that is our one respite from being inside,” Plant said. “Some people may find themselves walking the same routes and exploring less of our town.”

Lucky and Spirit, the school’s puppy mascots, have posted pictures all over Lashburn with a puppy face on each poster. There are eight in the community and near those posters is an Easter egg with a letter inside.

“The intention is to get people walking to other parts of town,” Plant said. “Lashburn has nearly eight streets in town. You could walk from one end of to the other in approximately 15 minutes, so I thought we would set up these spots all over and it gives everyone a chance to walk a different route.”

The principal placed a poster near her home and is hoping families will stop by so she can express how much she misses students from her front porch.

Lashburn families are encouraged to maintain social distancing by not doing this activity as a group as it is only intended for immediate families in the community.

“It is all selfie-based and there is nothing to collect or to be physically touched when at the poster location,” Plant said. “It’s spread out across town and is suggested as a family event and intended for those who are in your COVID-19 bubble.”

If kids collect all eight clues around town, they will be able to spell out the mystery word. A draw will take place afterward.

In addition, kids are encouraged to draw a picture of a rainbow and mount it on windows at home or post online and add the message “everything is going to be okay,” because it will be.
