A 42-year-old man is facing charges after an incident involving the Canadian Armed Forces last week.

Aaron Gardiner, of Île-à-la-Crosse, has been charged with several offences in relation to the incident including unlawful confinement, assault, overcoming resistance, uttering threats, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm for dangerous purposes, use of a firearm in commission of an indictable offence proceeds of crime and possessions for the purpose of trafficking.

Gardiner was first arrested in the early morning of April 24 after two CH-146 Griffon helicopters from the Canadian Armed Forces landed next to a cabin on Île-à-la-Crosse Lake. Police were able to secure the location and safely remove a female youth who was unlawfully confined.

Gardiner allegedly attempted to flee from the cabin after seeing police on scene, and once confronted by police, he resisted arrest. A conducted energy weapon was deployed, and he was arrested and taken into custody.
