Local CJNS on-air talent takes home a Saskatchewan Country Music Association award

The 31st annual Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards were handed out May 16 and Meadow Lake’s CJNS’s Matt Ryan, took home an award for on-air personality of the year in a secondary market.

This year’s Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards (SCMA) was virtual for the first time ever and was viewed by nearly 1,000 people on YouTube and up to 70,000 subscribers on Access7 TV.

Matt Ryan told meadowlakeNOW this is his third time winning a coveted Mickee SCMA award in this category.

“I’m very honoured and humbled to accept this award,” Ryan said. “So many artists have taken their time for interviews over the years and I am forever grateful so I very much appreciate it.”

Hosts Matt Ryan from CJNS Meadow Lake and Cody Glydon from CKRM Regina took viewers through an evening full of awards and musical talent honouring the best in country, roots and gospel music in the province.

“To everyone who watched, it means so much to all of us that so many support Saskatchewan country music because there are such great talent here,” he said. “I’m very appreciative that so many watched the awards and we’re very grateful. This will always be an award show that we will remember forever.”

CJNS Matt Ryan won the category against 105 CJVR’s Cal Gratton and MBC’s Ken Landers.

Musical performances were by Donny Parenteau, Chris Henderson, Brody Siebert, Samara Yung, Shantaia, Tommy John Ehman, The North Sound, Amy Nelson, Jordyn Pollard, Erin Hill, Yvonne St. Germaine, Tayler Tluchak, Amanda Hagel, Aces Wyld, Jay and Jo, Stephanie Rose, Brock Andrews, and Munro and Patrick.

Eighteen virtual performances and 32 virtual award presentations kept viewers engaged for three hours on Saturday night.
