Nine new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan, province launches new map to show spread

The province is releasing new COVID-19 maps to provide more detailed information on the number of cases across the province.

Saskatchewan will now have an additional map available, showing the virus cases divided into 13 regions rather than the six previous regions.

The province also broke down positive and current active COVID-19 case numbers for smaller zones within Saskatchewan.

There are nine new cases to report in the province bringing the total to 1,368. The new cases are one in the North West, one in North Central, two in Saskatoon region, four in the Regina region and one in the South West regions.

Of the total cases, 253 are considered active. There have been 1,097 recoveries.

Fourteen people remain in hospital, with seven receiving inpatient care, three in Saskatoon, three in the South West and one in Regina. Seven people are in the intensive care unit with five in Saskatoon and two in Regina.

Of the 1,368 cases, 204 are travellers, 697 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 359 have no known exposures and 108 are under investigation by local public health.

Across the province, 64 cases are healthcare workers (although not all sourced their infections at work), 352 cases are from the Far North Zone (346 far north west, 0 far north central, six far north east).

There are 294 cases from the South Zone (149 south west, 134 south central, 11 south east), 216 are from the Saskatoon zone. Two hundred and twenty one cases are from the north zone (96 north west, 63 north central, 62 north east), 186 cases are from the central zone (158 central west, 28 central east) and 99 cases are from the Regina zone.

There are 213 cases involving people aged 19 years old and under, while the remainder are adults.

There are 437 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 427 in the 40 to 59 age range, 241 are in the 60 to 79 age range and 50 are in the 80-plus age range.

There are 50 per cent of cases affecting females and 50 per cent affecting males.

There have been 18 deaths related to COVID-19 reported to date.

Up until today, 104,279 tests for COVID-19 have been performed in Saskatchewan. Yesterday, the province performed 688 COVID-19 tests. Testing is now available to anyone who requests it, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms.
