Three arrested and charged following traffic stop near Onion Lake

From August 12 to August 16, the Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) was deployed to Onion Lake to assist with reducing gang activity in the area.

On August 15, CRT officers patrolled Highway 17 and stopped a white Dodge Ram pickup truck near route 797 for a breach of the Traffic Safety Act. The vehicle refused to stop and fled from police.

CRT officers installed spike belts on Highway 17 to intercept the vehicle on two occasions when it exited the Highway. CRT officers followed the vehicle and saw three individuals, one male and two females, abandon the vehicle, flee on foot and break into a residence in an attempt to avoid police.

Officers entered the residence and arrested the three suspects. CRT officers seized a small quantity of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and $2,085 in Canadian currency.

Thirty-four-year-old Lyndon Belly, from Onion Lake, is charged with breaking and entering a dwelling, resisting arrest, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of cocaine.

Thirty-year-old Wanita Harper, from Onion Lake, is charged with breaking and entering a dwelling, resisting arrest, fleeing from police officer, driving while disqualified, refusing to provide samples and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Twenty-seven-year-old Cheyenne Harper, from Lloydminster is charged with breaking and entering a dwelling and resisting arrest.

All three suspects have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to make their first appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court on August 17.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Reduction Team’s mandate is to assist RCMP detachments across the province in capturing prolific offenders, repeat offenders, gang members and addressing any specific public safety issue a Saskatchewan RCMP detachment area may be experiencing.
