All back-to-school plans to be released Wednesday

Parents are to know Wednesday all of the details of what they can expect when their children return to the classroom on Sept. 8.

The provincial government gave a deadline of Aug. 26 for schools to finalize and communicate with parents what exactly they can expect to see at each facility.

Parents have already started receiving information from each specific school with staggered recess and lunch, mask use and new hand-washing stations as just some of the highlights.

In many cases, schools will not open to all students in the first week, but instead will see schools open in the first couple of days to students with last names starting with the letters A to K and a different day for those in the back half of the alphabet.

Some schools are even offering an orientation day so families and students can view the classrooms and see what provisions have been put in place to meet all public health guidelines.

Parents will also get an idea of what extracurricular activities will or won’t be offered under COVID.

Fall sports already have been cancelled in Saskatoon, but that’s not the case everywhere. Decisions are still pending on not just sports but programs like arts and other extracurriculars.
