Sep 2, 2020 | 12:00 PM

Meadow Lake’s 2020 Chuck Wagon Fun-Run is coming up this weekend and the Chamber of Commerce has added fireworks to the program.

Chamber administrator Trevor Dignean said the pyrotechnics show was intended to be part of this year’s Canada Day celebration which was rained out.

“The chuck wagon races are this Saturday at the fairgrounds,” he said. “Hopefully Mother Nature is nice and doesn’t rain on us again.”

The 2020 Fun-Run is a six-series event involving professional chuck wagon racers from all over the province showcasing and breaking-in their new horses. Proceeds from T-shirt sales and sponsorships are donated to community youth organizations. Meadow Lake is the last stop on the tour.

“It will be great to start getting out again and have things somewhat return to normal,” Dignean added.

Dennis Baldinus, owner of the Generals Bait in Tackle has been setting-off fireworks at local events and is looking forward to giving the community a show.

“Fireworks makes people happy in a time where everything is COVID,” he said. “Most people realize it’s fun and when you go home you have a smile of your face.”

Baldinus along with the local fire department will ensure public safety at the event. He said attendees can expect a 25-minute show beginning at 9 p.m on Sept. 5.

The public is urged to come to the track early and find a designated parking spot. Staff will be taking temperatures and offer hand sanitizer when needed. The public is urged to maintain a social distance at the events. Participants are asked to stay inside or stand outside of vehicles to maintain a distance.

This weekend’s event is running from Sept. 5 and 6 with an extended show on Saturday. The chuck wagon race will take place at the fairgrounds located behind the Civic Centre at 420 Third St. East. in Meadow Lake.

The local event is sponsored by SaskLotteries, the City of Meadow Lake and Meadow Lake Chamber of Commerce.
