New Outbreak in Yorkton

Province records 14 new cases of COVID-19, nine more recoveries

The province has recorded 14 new cases of COVID-19.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (one), Saskatoon (three), Central East (seven), and Regina (three) zones.

The total amount of reported cases is now at 1,892.

One case from Sept. 27 with a pending location was assigned to the Regina zone.

Of the total cases, 149 are considered active. A total of 1,719 people have recovered with nine new recoveries recently added.

Eight people are in hospital receiving inpatient care. Seven of those are in Saskatoon and one is in Regina.

Of the 1,892 cases, 280 are travellers, 938 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 544 have no known exposures and 130 are under investigation by local public health.

Across the province, 72 cases are healthcare workers (although not all sourced their infections from work). There are 324 cases involving people aged 19 years old and younger.

There are 618 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 582 in the 40 to 59 age range, 306 in the 60 to 79 age range and 62 in the 80-plus age range.

Fifty-one per cent of cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

There are 24 deaths related to COVID-19 reported to date.

There are:

  • 441 cases are from the south area (222 south west, 200 south central, 19 south east)
  • 385 cases are from the Saskatoon area
  • 359 cases are from the far north area (350 far north west, 0 far north central, nine far north east)
  • 276 cases are from the north area (132 north west, 77 north central, 67 north east)
  • 255 cases are from the central area (175 central west, 80 central east)
  • 176 cases are from the Regina area

To date, 188,068 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province, with 2,236 performed yesterday.

Testing is available to anyone who requests it, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms.

Yorkton Outbreak

Public health officials continue to investigate recent cases in the city of Yorkton and initial findings suggest most share a common exposure at a fitness facility.

Those who have visited the area are urged to remain vigilant and follow all public health precautions.

In a teleconference on Monday, Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab says that case numbers are likely to rise.

“We will likely see more cases in Yorkton, because now they are entering active case contact.”

The Saskatchewan Health Authority are in their third day of contact tracing and have found at least one hundred possible contacts.

Outbreaks were declared at Yorktown Regional High School, Pumphouse Athletic Club and the Yorkton Regional Health Centre.

The SHA issued public safety alerts regarding the outbreaks and will continue to do so.

NITHA reports two active cases

The health authority that serves 33 northern Saskatchewan first nations is reporting just two active cases among its’ communities.

According to Monday’s update from the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA), one case is in the northeast and the other is in the far northwest.

To date NITHA has reported 80 positive cases of COVID-19, and from those 78 have recovered..

NITHA is comprised of the Prince Albert Grand Council, Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, and Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

In response to COVID-19, several measures were instituted within the communities to prevent the spread of the pandemic including community lockdowns, travel restrictions, blockades, and curfews.
