Meadow Lake council candidate an advocate for youth and mental health

Sébastien Dupuis thinks Meadow Lake needs a representative on city council that will support citizens’ ideas, fight for the needs of the community and earn respect through his efforts and attitude.

“That candidate is myself,” Dupuis said.

He moved to La Loche in 2011 where he acted as a youth worker for a program through Crime Prevention Canada. After that, Dupuis spent years working in the oil fields where he held multiple leadership and management positions within the facilities maintenance sector. In 2017, he and his family settled in Meadow Lake where he currently works for a local contracting company.

Dupuis said he was always taught that if you’re not willing to make a change and if you’re not willing to participate in that change, then you don’t have the right to complain.

“So I just saw an opportunity to bring my past experiences to the table at city council – both with my facilities maintenance background and working closely with youth advocating for mental health.”

Dupuis wants to work with local and provincial agencies for mental health supports and services not just for vulnerable youth and those struggling with addictions, but for all members of the community.

“I’d also aim for crime reduction through prevention with an emphasis on outreach programming and also find a viable solution for the current lack of 24-hour policing,” Dupuis said.

Taxes are another item on his campaign platform. He wants to ensure decisions on spending are in line with what the citizens want and ensure the property tax rates are fairly reflected in services received.

He would also like to get a skateboard park built in Meadow Lake.
