Ron Dishko campaigns on a promise for the right direction

One of the many reasons Ron Dishko loves to call Meadow Lake home is because of what it offers outdoors.

“I do some fishing. I’m not very good at it, but I try and do some fishing,” he said.

Enhancing recreational opportunities is just one of the things the city council incumbent wants to do if re-elected on Nov. 9.

Dishko, who picked up a council seat in last year’s byelection, believes Meadow Lake is a great place to live, work and raise a family.

“Meadow Lake is home and I thought it was time to start giving back and helping a community we’re very fond of,” Dishko said.

After moving to the city in 2011, he became a board member of the hospital foundation, a city representative on the Chamber of Commerce board and volunteers wherever he can, outside of his job as the Petroleum Division Manager for Coop.

“I want to make sure we’re making the right decisions for the community and having the city grow in the right direction and making sure we can keep up with things,” he said.

Dishko is confident in the current council’s plans for infrastructure and paving. He wants to continue improving on educational, recreational, and medical needs in the community.

“And to make sure that the community is a safe place to raise a family,” he said. “So, I’d like to work closely with the RCMP on that.”

Dishko is encouraging residents to cast their ballots either through advance polls or on election day.

“Being on council for the year, I’ve learned a lot and if there are situations or decisions or scenarios that you’re frustrated with, it’s good to make sure that you have the right people on council who can bring your voice and concerns to the table,” he said.

Returning officer Jessica Walters said she had received 19 mail-in ballot requests so far and hoped to see that number increase over the next week. The first advanced polling station opens Oct. 29.
