Rain expected to continue for at least another day in Saskatchewan

The rain will continue for much of Saskatchewan for at least another day.

As of Sunday morning, rainfall warnings were still in effect in the areas around Prince Albert, the Battlefords, Lloydminster and Meadow Lake. Saskatoon’s rainfall warning ended Sunday morning.

Many other parts of Saskatchewan got rain Saturday night, including Regina and other areas in the south.

Kean Kokolsky, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said to expect the precipitation to continue for a while longer.

“There’s a lot of well-needed rain that’s been pushing into the province here, fortunately. It looks like that will persist for the next day and a half,” he explained.

The rain will likely be either light or not there at all Monday afternoon and then pick up again in either the late afternoon or evening.

“There is (a) risk of thunderstorms later (Monday) … but the risk is very slight,” he continued.

The forecast for both Regina and Saskatoon shows the rain tapering off by Wednesday.

The moisture will likely come as welcome news for producers in the province.

The latest crop report showed that topsoil moisture was only adequate in 20 per cent of the province, causing some farmers to worry about their crop yields.

It will also likely be a help for firefighters in the Prince Albert area, who are working to put out hotspots in the aftermath of the massive Cloverdale wildfire.
