Gold Eagle Casino set to open June 20

May 28, 2021 | 5:00 PM

The Saskatchewan Indigenous Gaming Authority (SIGA) announced this week that all seven casinos in the province are opening to the public in less than a month.

The Gold Horse Casino in Lloydminster will open at 11:00 a.m. on June 20, while the Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford and the remaining five will open earlier at 10:00 a.m. that day. During this initial phase of opening, SIGA will start up at reduced capacity, given the 150 person maximum and physical distancing requirements imposed by the provincial health guidelines. Select gaming and food service will be available, but those will be enhanced when more restrictions are lifted.

In a media release, SIGA President and CEO Zane Hansen said they were excited to welcome back guests and have worked hard to ensure the health and safety of all.

“I’m very excited for our team members to return to what they do best, providing the best entertainment experience possible for our guests, even if that experience now looks a bit different,” he said.

“I think the hardest part for everybody during the pandemic has been the sense of isolation,” Patricia Cook, VP of Corporate Affairs, told paNOW. “I think this gives people hope and staff will be excited there’s an opportunity to come back to work. [It’s] not only for the patrons but for the staff to be able to normalize things.”

Cook said table games would not be available immediately at NLC, but the hope was to reinstate those from July. Restaurants will be open and following the same hygiene and social distancing protocols as any other restaurant in the province.

“The casino has some of the best health and safety standards in place,” Cook added. “We implemented our enhanced set of cleaning standards in July last year, so we’re pretty confident we’ll be taking care of our patrons as best as we can.”

A screening process will occur for each visitor prior to their entering a casino. More information on SIGA’s health and safety plan, as well as operating hours for each casino, is available at SIGA.ca.
