Meadow Lake RCMP arrest two individuals involved in vehicle theft

Jun 8, 2021 | 4:09 PM

The Meadow Lake RCMP has arrested two individuals that attempted to evade arrest late last week.

On Friday evening, officers responded to complaints of a motorist driving recklessly on Highway 55. Once the vehicle was sighted by police, the officers tried to get the driver to pull over, but the suspect resisted and was later located at a business on the 100th block of 9th Street West in Meadow Lake.

An investigation revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from Prince Albert.

When an officer approached the vehicle to arrest the driver, the suspect started reversing into the police cruiser while the female passenger tried to help the driver evade arrest. At this point, the second officer arrived to offer support.

Two civilians inside the nearby business assisted officers with apprehending the driver, and the female passenger tried to flee the scene with what officers thought was a gun. The civilians and officers on scene were able to arrest the female nearly a block away from the scene. Police recovered the stock of a shot gun from a nearby garbage bin.

Immediately after the arrests, the officers claimed they began experiencing undisclosed symptoms believed to potentially be associated to inhaling a foreign substance. The officers were examined by medical professionals, and the civilians did not report experiencing any symptoms.

Meadow Lake RCMP Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Ryan How stated this incident demonstrated some of the risks officers face in the line of duty.

“Risks are an aspect of the job we know exist, but the public may never see or hear about. Every day police officers in Meadow Lake put on their uniforms and go out and help keep our community safe. This is a serious reminder that we are regular people too. Thankfully both police officers involved in this incident report they are feeling better,” How said.

Both 22-year-old Kiefer Morin and 24-year-old Madison Tinker acquired several charges, including illegal possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and failure to comply with an order.

After making their initial court appearance on June 7, both are expected to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court via CCTV on June 14.
