Meadow Lake Hospital Foundation hosting ‘Car Bingo’ fundraiser

Jun 17, 2021 | 5:49 PM

In a little over one week’s time, horns are going to be honking and markers are going to be dabbing all over the Meadow Lake Arena parking lot.

The Meadow Lake Hospital Foundation is set to hold its ‘Car Bingo’ fundraiser on June 25. The event will take place at the parking lot of the former-Meadow Lake and District Arena at 7 p.m. Participants are advised to arrive early as card sales begin at 5 p.m. and end at 6:45 p.m.

Chairman Tony Vandenberg explained the funding will be used to help the hospital acquire more of the required equipment, including items necessary for the new hemodialysis unit being installed later this summer.

“All of our funds are going towards purchasing equipment, whether that’s the hemodialysis unit or new beds and such. It goes into the large pot, and when they call us for product for the hemodialysis unit, we can spend the money for them,” he said.

While construction is expected to begin later in the season, the hemodialysis addition isn’t expected to be operational until early 2022.

Vandenberg expressed his excitement for the event and the positive impact it could have on the local healthcare system.

“We’re very fortunate to hold an event like this with the COVID rules and such. It’s a nice event for the public to join in, and something to get them out of the house and yet do it safely.”

As residents arrive to Car Bingo, they will be required to pay a $30 entry fee. A bingo card is included in the price of admission. Additional cards can be purchased for the same price.

Bingo numbers will be called out using a short band FM station, so contestants will need to be tuned in to the radio broadcast on their car.

Bingo markers will not be supplied at the event, meaning participants will need to bring their own.

If someone in attendance has a winning card, the presumed winner is expected to honk their horn to signify calling “bingo.” There will be one bonus bonanza blackout card game in which the winner must completely fill out their bingo card. There will be up to $15,600 available in cash prizes for the main bingo cards. The bonanza blackout game will award the winner with half of the bonanza card sales.

The Meadow Lake Broncos will be in attendance running the concession. All proceeds from concession will help fund the Broncos organization.
