RCMP charity golf tournament raises nearly $7,000 for parks and recreation
The totals are in from Meadow Lake’s latest charitable event, and the Parks and Recreation department is set to return the hefty chunk of change straight back into the community.
The Meadow Lake RCMP recently hosted its fundraising golf tournament with the intention of donating the proceeds to cover the costs associated with the loss of the Meadow Lake & District Arena. The event drew a smaller crowd than in its last run in 2019, but the 97 golfers in attendance were able to surpass the fundraising mark with a donation of nearly $7,000.
In an interview with meadowlakeNOW, Meadow Lake RCMP Cpl. Jared Rau shared while the weather conditions posed as a mild inconvenience, the event went off without a hitch and was well-received by those who came to play.
“The wind might have been a little strong, but it was a nice day. We were seeing a lot of smiles. A lot of people came out, and we had a lot of great reviews,” Rau said. “We had our big four (vehicle dealerships) bringing their vehicles out and parking them on the golf course, which was pretty cool to see. Unfortunately, nobody hit a hole-in-one, so nobody was able to drive away with a brand new vehicle, but c’est la vie, that’s the way she goes.”
