A couple of investigations conducted by La Loche RCMP have resulted in police seizing approximately 433 grams of crack cocaine within a two-day period.

On Aug. 20, officers executed a search warrant on George Street. During this time, officials confiscated 16 grams of crack cocaine, two cell phones, two knives, a sum of cash and trafficking paraphernalia.

As a result of this incident, Dawson Fontaine, Topanga and Pierson Piche of La Loche, Sask. were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime less than or equal to $5,000.

After making an appearance in court, Pierson was remanded ahead of his next court appearance set for Aug. 30. Topanga and Fontaine are set to appear in court on Oct. 18.

The second incident took place on Aug. 21 when officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 135. After pulling over a vehicle 15 km south of La Loche, police discovered nearly 417 grams of crack cocaine, 12 grams of a substance suspected to be fentanyl and trafficking paraphernalia. The items were seized, and the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.

Nicholas Shingoose of Saskatoon Sask. was charged with one count of trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He is expected to appear in court on Oct. 4.

La Loche RCMP Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Éric Desfossés said these arrests are a part of the RCMP’s commitment to public safety, adding police will continue to ‘aggressively target’ individuals trafficking illegal narcotics in the community.

“These two investigations alone have resulted in very significant amounts of illicit drugs removed from the streets,” Desfossés said.

He mentioned officers also seized nearly 38 grams of crack cocaine, 283 grams of cocaine and 15 grams of fentanyl in several separate incidents from July 24 to Aug. 12. Charges were also laid in each of these incidents.

The La Loche RCMP is encouraging people to report any suspected trafficking incidents by calling the La Loche detachment at 306-822-2010, or submit a tip anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
