RCMP Major Crime Unit investigating suspected murder-suicide in Lions Park

Aug 31, 2021 | 3:25 PM

Police are considering the incident that resulted in two deaths in Meadow Lake to be a homicide-suicide.

After receiving several reports of firearms being discharged at Lions Park Campground Monday afternoon, police found a 34 year-old woman from Flying Dust First Nation deceased outside a trailer in the park. The body of a 34 year-old man from Thunderchild First Nation was discovered inside the trailer.

Officers believe the man took his own life, and an autopsy will be conducted on both of the deceased.

An adult woman known to the deceased was also injured in the incident, but has received treatment for what is described as minor injuries.

Investigators determined the Meadow Lake RCMP received a request for a wellness check on the same 34-year-old female victim from a concerned individual.

Police are not seeking any additional suspects in this case, and do not expect any charges to be laid. RCMP Major Crime Unit South is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the deaths, working with other law enforcement groups.

Further updates from police are not expected.
