Province reports second highest daily case total since pandemic began

As of Sept. 10, there are 432 new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

This total is only the second highest day in Saskatchewan’s COVID history with 441 new cases reported on Nov. 21, 2020.

There were 210 new cases reported in Saskatchewan’s northern zones with new cases being located in the Far North West (22), Far North Central (four), Far North East (20), North West (77), North Central (69), North East (18).

Today’s totals brings the reported case count to 57,952; 3,573 cases considered active and 53,762 cases considered recovered.

Over one-third (34.3 per cent) of new cases are in the 19 years and under age category.

One in ten (10.0 per cent) new cases was fully vaccinated.

There is one new death reported today bringing the provincial total to 617 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 having died and a case fatality rate of 1.1 per cent.

Another 2,856 new vaccine administrations were also reported today, including 1,269 first doses. The total of fully vaccinated Saskatchewan residents has now reached 705,775 individuals.

NITHA Saskatchewan

As of Sept. 9, there are 73 new cases to report today in NITHA communities. Fifty-nine of the new cases (81 per cent) were unvaccinated, two (three per cent) are partially vaccinated and 12 (16 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 416 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 28; Far North West, 56; Far North East, 253; North Central, 47; and North East, 32.

There are 205 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; 11, Far North West, 23; and Far North East, 113; North Central, 35; and North East, 23.

There have been 4,779 cases (91 per cent) have recovered, and eight people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

As of Sept. 9, there are 27 active cases in the Athabasca Health Authority; five cases in both Black Lake and Stony Rapids, and 18 in Fond Du Lac.

Taiwo Olubanwo, Executive Director of Primary Health Care for the health authority said multiple events have taken place in Fond Du Lac where there is currently a probable outbreak.

“We strongly recommend that community members should suspend community events and activities in the interim,” stated Olubanwo in a recent media release.
