Meadow Lake Mall to be renovated under new ownership

Sep 13, 2021 | 4:24 PM

One of Meadow Lake’s most significant business centres is set to receive some very notable changes.

The Meadow Lake Mall was recently purchased by Endurance Equities Corporation with the intention of changing the appearance of the shopping centre. Ownership said the new upgrades to the facility’s appearance would help the businesses in the mall bring in new clientele, increase property value and offer a better shopping experience.

Matt Stokes, vice-president of Endurance Equities Corp., said he recognized the opportunity to expand into the Meadow Lake market and improve the shopping centre, subsequently adding it to his roster of developments.

“It doesn’t look to me like the shopping center has seen a lot of love in the last number of years,” he said. “I understand there’s quite a demand for retail space in Meadow Lake. We think there’s an opportunity to do something good here and refresh the property.”

The plans for the centre have some of the current business owners excited for the new vision for the facility. Shelley Dymond, owner of Meadow Lake Flowers and Plants, described the news of the sale as ‘absolutely wonderful.’

“They’re really treating us well. They’re re-evaluating the building, they’re going to perk it up and they’re being quite open and honest with us,” she said. “I can’t wait for what the future is going to bring with them.”

Endurance Equities owns several properties across Canada, with a majority of the developments in Alberta. Stokes stated the family-owned organization focuses on developing similar centres in small markets. A page featuring current and completed developments can be found on the company website.

He mentioned local contractors and architects have been hired to complete improvements to the property. Materials for the upgrades have been ordered, and work is expected to begin once they have arrived.

Stokes said immediate upgrades are expected to begin, but not before discussing the changes with each of the businesses operating under the shopping centre.

“We’re going to reach out to all our tenants shortly. We’re actually working on the communication with them right now to let them know about the architectural plans,” he said. “We think that a fresh look in the shopping center with modern station new signage is going to help their businesses.”

Stokes said there aren’t any plans to expand the shopping centre as he feels there is more than enough room with the current design, but will revisit the idea if the demand increases to that point.
