Province reports another high number of new COVID cases, new second highest since pandemic started

It was another day of relatively high new cases of COVID-19 in the province today as another 475 new confirmed cases were reported today.

While this doesn’t top yesterday’s record high, this is now the second highest day for daily COVID cases in the province since the pandemic began.

The last three days of new cases have topped the former highest daily case number from November 2020.

Of the new cases reported today, 192 were reported in northern Saskatchewan zones; Far North West (19), Far North Central (four), Far North East (47), North West (61), North Central (41), and North East (23).

New cases now brings the provincial total to 60,149 confirmed cases; 4,016 cases considered active and 55,504 cases are considered recovered.

Over one-third (34.9 per cent) of new cases are in the 19 years and under age category.

More than one in seven (15.2 per cent) new cases were fully vaccinated.

Two new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 629 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died and a provincial case fatality rate of one per cent.

NITHA Data

There are 74 new cases to report today in NITHA communities. Fourty-nine (66 per cent) were unvaccinated, 95 (12 per cent) are partially vaccinated and 16 (22 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 426 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 23; Far North West, 40; Far North East, 234; North Central, 60; and North East, 69; 5032 cases (92 per cent) have recovered, and 12 people are being hospitalized.

There are 64 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; one, Far North West, 15; and Far North East, 14; North Central, 13; and North East, 21.

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA)

With no new cases or recoveries reported on Sept. 14, the active case count in the Athabasca Health Authority remains at 20 overnight with two added on Sept. 13 in Fond Du Lac.

One person remains in hospital in Black Lake and there has been 187 active cases in AHA communities and one death since June 2021. Since the pandemic began, AHA has reported there has been 490 total cases of COVID-19.
