Province reports 394 new cases of COVID-19, 158 reported in northern Saskatchewan

As of Sept. 29, there are 394 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province bringing the provincial total to 4,585 cases currently active.

The daily cases reported today include 85 per cent of cases among unvaccinated individuals and three new deaths reported today. The provincial death count is now at 685 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

Ninty cases are in children between the ages of 0-11.

Northern Saskatchewan totalled 158 new cases today; Far North West (22), Far North East (29), North West (48), North Central (36), North East (23).

The total number of active cases in Northern Saskatchewan is now at 1,670.

Above one in four (26.6 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

One in six (16.4 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Sept. 29, a total of 295 individuals are hospitalized; including 228 inpatient hospitalizations, and 67 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 295 patients eligible for vaccination, 221 (75 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

There are no ICU beds located in the following six regions: Far North West, Far North Central, Far North East, North East, Central West and South East.

NITHA Data

There were 48 new cases to report on Sept. 28 in NITHA communities; 37 (77 per cent) were unvaccinated, six (13 per cent) are partially vaccinated and five (10 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 234 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 12; Far North West, 53; Far North East, 127; North Central, 32; and North East, 10. There has been 5,715 cases (95 per cent) that have recovered, and 20 people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

The Athabasca Health Authority is currently reporting 12 active COVID-19 cases in Fond Du Lac on their Facebook page today. Executive director of Primary Health Care, Taiwo Olubanwo, wrote on the post that the majority of individuals will most likely recover within this week.

Two funeral gathering in both Stony Rapids and Black Lake about a week ago have not caused any new COVID-19 cases however, Olubanwo is encouraging residents to be cautious.

“The good news is that we do not have any case in other AHA communities.”

“In the past three months, only 17 per cent of the total COVID-19 cases were fully vaccinated,” reported Olubanwo. “Whilst five per cent were partially vaccinated. At least 78 per cent of all COVID-19 cases (157) in AHA region in the past three months were not vaccinated.”

Olubanwo also reported that the vaccination rates are steadily increasing among the communities with a total of 35 per cent being fully vaccinated, 17 per cent have been partially vaccinated and no fewer than 48 per cent unvaccinated.

“We strongly recommend a continued adherence to all the COVID-19 prevention measures. Get vaccinated and stay safe.”
