Pierceland RCMP arrest two involved in armed robbery

Oct 14, 2021 | 12:13 PM

Pierceland RCMP have arrested two individuals involved in an armed robbery in Mudie Lake First Nation.

On Oct. 8, police were dispatched to a residence after receiving a report of bear mace being discharged in the dwelling. When officers arrived on scene, an investigation determined a male threatened one of the people living in the residence with a firearm before stealing a cell phone.

The man then discharged the bear mace in the home and left with another man. A gun was fired into the air outside of the residence. No one was injured by the gunfire, but some people in the home were affected by the bear mace.

Police said the two men were known to the victims.

With assistance from the North Battleford Crime Reduction Team, police were able to locate and arrest both of the men without incident later that day.

A 32-year-old male from Island Lake First Nation has been charged with 12 offences, including robbery with firearm, assault with a weapon, identity fraud and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

He is expected to appear in court on Nov. 9.

The other man, a 20-year-old from Mudie Lake, has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and recklessly discharging a firearm.

The man is set to appear in court on Dec. 1.
