Door of Hope rounds out management ahead of holidays

While employment instability has been a recurring theme, the Door of Hope recently brought in a few new faces that may just be the saving grace needed to complete a challenging year on a high note.

The Door of Hope recently hired new administrative assistant Melissa Colbert, and food bank/Hope Center manager Josiah Griffiths.

The acquisitions complete the Door of Hope’s roster of paid employees, bringing the organization to full employment for one of the first times of the year.

Executive director Natanis Bundschuh said the new hires provide more stability and consistency to the workforce as the organization had been forced to make several adjustments throughout the year to combat issues raised by employment vacancies.

“It makes things really stressful because when you try to add two full positions to everybody else’s existing positions, they tend to get stretched pretty thin pretty fast,” she said.

Timing played a major role in the non-profit’s ability to continue providing service as Griffiths joined the team shortly after the previous food bank manager’s resignation.

A food drive recently held by Eatery on Main helped provide the Door of Hope with supplies and items needed throughout the season.

The drive was held at a time where the organization would need it the most as acquiring items by applying for certain programs and grants was hindered by the absence of the food bank manager.

Bunschuh explained while the non-profit has faced its fair share of challenges, the new acquisitions provide relief ahead of the upcoming holiday season.

“We’ve had to be patient with these last two employees that we brought on because they had other things they needed to finish up before they could come over, but they were well worth the wait.”

She added the Door of Hope is still looking for assistance from volunteers to maintain a steady operation of the thrift store along with other smaller duties.

“There’s so many little niches that can be filled that would help the ministry to function a little more efficiently and more effectively, but it’s just pulling in all those pieces together can be kind of tricky.”

Anyone looking for a volunteer opportunity in the community can file an application with the Door of Hope online.
