MLBEX Nominations

Meadow Lake Chamber of Commerce announces 2021 MLBEX nominees

Oct 22, 2021 | 9:48 AM

The Meadow Lake & District Chamber of Commerce has announced this year’s nominees for the 2021 Business Excellence Awards (MLBEX).

Excitement for this year’s event is at a surplus as this gathering will mark the return of an in-person banquet. The previous affair was held virtually due to the public health restrictions put in place to combat the outbreak of COVID-19.

Geoff Barton, owner of The Medicine Shoppe and nominee for Business of the Year, said while there may be some apprehension with a return to public gatherings, he feels the event provides guests with a memorable experience that hasn’t been available often throughout a majority of the pandemic.

“It’s nice to be able to see everyone face to face again,” he said.

“The virtual events are good, but they’re not the same as sharing that energy in the room. It’ll be nice to get in the old barn again and see each other.”

This year’s nominations feature several first-year businesses and a roster of many organizations and individuals that have made significant contributions to the well-being of the community.

Cookies on Call, Fitness Lair, From Scratch, Head’s Autobody, Flat Out Engine Repair and Russ’s Small Engine Repair complete the list on nominees for New Business of the Year.

Brandie Campbell, co-owner of Cookies on Call, said receiving recognition from the community in the first year of business is a surprising experience. Cookies on Call was also nominated for Business of the Year as well.

Russ’s Small Engine Repair was also nominated for Business of the Year, making both establishments first-time entrants competing for the top business awards.

Campbell says the event is an important aspect to the identity of the community as it highlights some of the great accomplishments from businesses and individuals.

“It’s really important for the community to have something like this to show support for businesses and each other,” she said.

“It’ll be really good to get together with all of the other businesses and people that were nominated, and support each other.”

A complete list of nominations for this year’s MLBEX Awards can be found on the Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page.

The MLBEX Awards are scheduled to take place on Friday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. inside of the Meadow Lake Civic Centre.

Tickets are available for purchase for $60 each, or 10 for $500.

Tickets can be bought by ordering through messaging the Chamber on Facebook, by phone at 306-236-4061 or by email at mlchamberofcommerce@sasktel.net.
