Three-hundred new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths reported today by provincial government

The province announced 300 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today with 225 cases among unvaccinated individuals and 99 among children between the ages of 0-11.

Twelve new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 812 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died. The 12 deaths are among the highest daily counts during the pandemic. The record is 14 set in January.

Of the new cases, 70 are located in Northern Saskatchewan zones; Far North West (three), Far North East (20), North West (25), North Central (16) and North East (six).

There are currently 3,135 cases considered active in the province.

Total number of active cases of COVID-19 in the province saw an increase of 31 overnight with 3,135 currently active in Saskatchewan. This includes 1,092 currenty active in Northern Zones of the province. (Government of Saskatchewan)

One-third (33 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 11 or under.

Over one-fourth (28.9 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 22, a total of 308 individuals are hospitalized, including 228 inpatient hospitalizations and 80 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 308 patients, 226 (73.4 per cent) were not fully vaccinated. Zero cases were transferred, for a total of six Saskatchewan cases that have been transferred out-of-province to Ontario. As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in dashboard.

NITHA numbers

NITHA reported on Oct. 21 that there are 22 new cases in NITHA communities; 18 (82 per cent) were unvaccinated, two (nine per cent) are partially vaccinated and two (nine per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 211 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 51; Far North East, 109; North Central, 32; and North East, 19. There has been 6,415 cases (96 per cent) recovered, and 12 people are being hospitalized.
