Eleven new deaths reported today in COVID-19 provincial update; 237 new cases

Eleven new deaths were reported today by the provincial government bringing the total to 843 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

Also reported today were 237 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 77,067 reported cases since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 168 were in individuals who are unvaccinated and 65 are in children between the ages of 0-11.

Only 49 new cases were reported in northern Saskatchewan today; Far North West (one), Far North East (11), North West (14), North Central (18), North East (five).

Of the 2,398 cases that are currently considered active, a drop of 42 active cases from yesterday, 724 are currently active in the six northern zones of the province.

There have been 73,826 total cases that are considered recovered.

Over one-quarter (27.4 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 11 or under.

Over one-quarter (29.1 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 28, a total of 260 individuals are hospitalized in SK, including 202 inpatient hospitalizations and 58 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 260 patients, 185 (71.2 per cent) were not fully vaccinated. Three additional cases were transferred to Ontario, for a total of nineteen Saskatchewan cases who have been transferred out-of-province to date. As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in dashboard.

NITHA numbers

On Oct. 27, there were 20 new cases reported in NITHA communities; 15 (75 per cent) were unvaccinated, one (five per cent) are partially vaccinated and four (20 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 193 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 49; Far North East, 106; North Central, 23; and North East, 15. There have been 6,560 cases (96 per cent) that have recovered, and 14 people are being hospitalized.

According to the Saskatchewan government COVID-19 update on Oct. 28, there continues to be no new cases to report in the Far North Central zone, including within the Athabasca Health region.
