Ferne Hebig to become new Meadow Lake City clerk

The City of Meadow Lake is bringing a familiar face into the City’s administration team to fill a vacancy created by a recent departure.

Ferne Hebig is joining the community as the new City clerk effective Nov. 15. She is a Meadow Lake resident who has experience working in several other municipalities’ public offices.

Her latest experience comes from her time in Viscount as the village’s interim administrator. She will take over the responsibilities previously held by Jessica Walters, who had accepted a job offer in another community earlier this year.

City Manager Diana Burton said Hebig brings an abundance of experience that will help the City ensure operations continue running efficiently heading into the new year and beyond.

“We are very excited to welcome Ferne to our team,” she said.

“We’ve definitely had a big hole in our organization since Jessica left at the beginning of September, and we feel very lucky that we had a qualified applicant apply who just happened to be heading Meadow Lake’s way.”

Hebig previously worked with the Town of Naicam and Town of Wadena as their administrators.

She holds a certificate in local government authority, an advanced certificate in local government administration from the University of Regina as well as certificates in public relations and asset management.

As she prepares to make her return to the community, she said she is grateful to be returning home to a community that gives her a sense of comfort she believes can’t be replicated.

“I’ve been wanting to come back home for a while. Nowhere else we’ve lived has felt like home quite like here,” she said.

“When you’re driving up to Meadow Lake, there’s a certain point after Glaslyn where all the farmland and stuff turns into forest and you can breathe. It’s beautiful and relaxing.”

For Hebig, being a member of the local administration crew means she will have the privilege of being able to help keep the City’s history alive while making progressive strides toward the future.

She said the common interest among everyone in city council is everyone has the well-being of the community in mind, adding through continued collaborative efforts, the City will continue making beneficial strides.

“I’ve always been a big believer in community. I think every community deserves to thrive, and we want to do what we can to support that. Everyone’s working towards the same goals. I’m super excited to work with the team in my hometown.”

Hebig is expected to take over all clerical responsibilities on Nov. 15, 2021.
