Saskatchewan surpasses 900 COVID-related deaths with four more reported today

The Saskatchewan government is reporting another 149 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, 105 of which are among unvaccinated individuals, including 44 children between the ages of 0-11.

Four new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 901 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died.

About 24 of the new cases are located in Northern Saskatchewan; the Far North East (two), North West (12) and North Central (10).

There are currently 1,104 cases considered active, a drop of eight cases from yesterday’s total. There are currently 258 cases active in the northern regions, a drop of 23 cases from yesterday.

There have been 77,778 cases considered recovered.

More than one-fourth (29.5 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 11 or under.

Almost two-fifths (39.0 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Nov. 17, a total of 168 people are hospitalized; including 126 inpatient hospitalizations, and 42 in ICU. Of the 168 patients, 112 (66.7 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

In addition to Saskatchewan ICUs, there are 11 residents in Ontario ICUs. As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in the dashboard.

There have been 79,783 cases confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic. This includes 19,491 cases from the North area (8,665 North West, 8,016 North Central, 2,810 North East).

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported three new cases to report on Nov. 16 in NITHA communities. Of the new cases, 100 per cent were unvaccinated.

There are 35 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 17; Far North East, six; North Central, 10; and North East, two. There have been 6,825 cases (99 per cent) that have recovered, and seven people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

The Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) remains at zero new or active cases in the region as they continue to encourage members to get their vaccinations.

As projected, we are pleased to report that more than half (53 per cent) of the population living in the AHA region have been fully vaccinated as of Nov. 15. While 12 per cent were partially vaccinated with the CoVID-19 vaccine, records show that a little over 1 in 3 people accounts for the unvaccinated population in the AHA region.

The AHA is happy to report that Fond-Du-Lac has reached their 60 per cent target for vaccinations. marked as the AHA CoVID-19 vaccine uptake target. The precentage of vaccinations in AHA communities are currently as follows:

  • Fond-Du-Lac (60 per cent)
  • Uranium City (87 per cent)
  • Stony Rapids (93 per cent)
  • Camsell Portage (100 per cent)
  • Black Lake (38 per cent)
