Lakeview Elementary receives roof upgrade from provincial stimulus funding

Nov 24, 2021 | 3:38 PM

One of Meadow Lake’s education centres is benefitting from a round of provincial funding designed to improve local facilities.

Lakeview Elementary School recently received upgrades to its roof over recent months as part of a series of school maintenance projects.

The renovation is included with projects in 15 other communities across Saskatchewan set to receive $25.9-million in stimulus funding.

Each of the schools required upgrades to mechanical and structural components last summer, and they were identified by school divisions in their preventative maintenance and renewal plans.

The stimulus program allows each school division to proceed with the necessary upgrades without tying up large portions of their individual Preventative Maintenance and Renewal funding.

The projects are part of a $7.5-billion capital plan from the province to stimulate Saskatchewan’s economic recovery.

In a media release, SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Jim Reiter said the investment plays an important role in the Government of Saskatchewan’s plan to improve education.

“These projects not only help address key maintenance needs in schools across our province, they also helped stimulate activity in local economies in these communities as part of our record investment in infrastructure stimulus funding,” he said.
