Province reports 62 new cases of COVID-19, currently 538 active

The province is reporting 62 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province today, half of which are among people who are unvaccinated.

Twenty-one new cases have been identified in northern Saskatchewan: Far North West (two), Far North East (one), North Central (nine), and North East (nine).

There are currently 538 active cases in the province, 105 of which are in the six northern Saskatchewan zones.

More than one-quarter (27.4 per cent) of new cases are between the ages of 40 to 59.

Over half (53.4 per cent) of the new cases were individuals fully vaccinated against the virus when excluding those under the age of five who aren’t eligible for the vaccine.

As of Dec. 15, a total of 105 individuals are hospitalized with 33 being treated in the ICU. Of the 105 patients, 68 (64.8 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

There are no residents in an out-of-province ICU.

No new deaths were reported today leaving the current death toll at 941 for the entire province.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 14, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) has seen one new case in their communities. This person has been fully vaccinated.

There are eight active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North West (six), Far North East (one), and North East (one). There have been 6,855 (99 per cent) recovered cases. There are currently no hospitalizations.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
