Province reports 78 new cases of COVID-19, 576 active cases

The province is reporting 78 new cases of COVID-19 across Saskatchewan on Sunday.

Seven of the new cases have been identified in northern Saskatchewan: Far North West (two) and North Central (seven).

There are currently 576 active cases in the province, 94 of which are in the six northern Saskatchewan zones.

Nearly one-third (30.8 per cent) of new cases are between the ages of 40 to 59.

Roughly two-thirds (53.4 per cent) were individuals fully vaccinated against the virus when excluding those under the age of five who aren’t eligible for the vaccine.

As of Dec. 19, a total of 105 individuals are hospitalized with 33 being treated in the ICU. Of the 105 patients, 66 (62.9 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

There are no residents in an out-of-province ICU.

No new deaths were reported on Sunday leaving the current death toll at 942 for the entire province.

There are nine active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

All of these cases are located in the Far North West.

There have been 6,878 (99.1 per cent) recovered cases.
