Northern Lights Snowmobile Association gearing up for Easter Seals Snowarama

Jan 21, 2022 | 10:00 AM

Weather conditions throughout the season have given winter sports fanatics plenty of reasons to be happy this year.

The heavy snowfalls and steady cool temperatures have provided snowmobile groups with all the conditions needed to create safe and enjoyable trails throughout Meadow Lake and the region.

Because of this, the Northern Lights Snowmobile Association (NLSA) is taking advantage of the conditions and planning several events for the remainder of the season. Most notably, the organization is preparing to move ahead with the return of its Easter Seals Snowarama after a two-year hiatus.

In an interview with meadowlakeNOW, NLSA President Cindy Gottlob explained the event’s resurgence is highly anticipated by the community. This year’s run will be the 45th year for the annual affair.

“It’s a fantastic event,” she said. “Every day you get snowmobiling in is a fun day.”

The event consists of snowmobile riders collecting pledges and embarking on a trip through whatever trails or paths they choose. The proceeds from the event are then donated to Easter Seals Saskatchewan, an organization that provides support to people living with disabilities.

“We don’t have to have a planned destination or ride because of COVID, so each individual club can plan their own day instead of going to Yorkton or Manitou where the Easter Seals all takes place,” Gottlob said.

After the rides have concluded, the nine-day event wraps up with the awards banquet taking place in Yorkton, Sask. Organizers are hopeful an in-person event will be permitted, but a virtual component will be retained for the Riders who choose to forego the gathering.

The Easter Seals Snowarama is scheduled to take place between Feb. 11 – 19. Anyone looking to participate in the event can register online and raise pledges by visiting www.snowarama.ca. A minimum total of $150 in pledges is required to participate.

The NLSA is expected to post their campaign on Facebook through their page. Those looking to support local riders will be able to make contributions to the cause once the information has been made publicly available.

Additional upcoming events will be announced on the page as well.
