ASKED: Why Is Today Not a Holiday? Other Than It’s Valentine’s Day

Feb 14, 2022 | 5:42 AM

Since its inception in 1967 the Super Bowl has ALWAYS been on a Sunday. So, why is the game not on Saturday? Or better yet, why is the day after the game, not a holiday and people don’t have to work?
Here’s why. It’s money.

In December 2018, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, “The audiences on Sunday night are so much larger.”

So here are three solutions….

  1. Add another game or bye week to the schedule, then always play the Super Bowl on President’s Day weekend, giving Americans a Monday off after the Super Bowl. But this only would affect U.S residents.
  2. Declare the Monday after Super Bowl a holiday, whenever it’s held! (Recommended)
  3. Just call in sick on Monday after the game.
